FA8A00N is a current-mode switching power supply control IC that can directly drive power MOSFETs. Despite its compact 8-pin package, it has a wide variety of functions, making it ideal for saving power at light loads and reducing the number of external components, thereby enabling the configuration of space-saving and cost-effective power supplies.

Features

  • Low standby power
    1. Incorporates an X-capacitor discharge function. (Reduces loss due to discharge resistance)
    2. Achieves low current consumption. (Ivccop 1 = 450 uA typ. during normal operation.)
    3. Incorporates a frequency reduction function to improve efficiency in the mid-load range.
    4. Switches to burst operation at light loads to achieve low standby power consumption.
    5. Incorporates a start-up circuit with a 500 V withstand voltage. (Achieves power savings for the startup circuit)
  • Various protective functions
    1. Incorporates 2-step detection overload protection (Delay time Tdlyolp = 70 msec typ.) Can handle excessive loads.
    2. Incorporates an overload detection value correction function based on the AC input voltage.
    3. Incorporates secondary-side load short-circuit protection.
    4. Incorporates a latch stop function using LAT pin pull-up/pull-down.
    5. Protective operation is available depending on the application.
    6. Incorporates overvoltage protection. (Vthovp = 25.5 V typ.)
    7. Incorporates low voltage malfunction prevention. (Vvccoff = 6.5 V typ.)
    8. Incorporates brown-in/out function (AC input voltage protective function)
    9. Incorporates a soft start function. (Tss = 11 msec typ.)
    10. Incorporates minimum on-width function. Suppresses excessive MOSFET drain voltage jumps during power-on and restart.
  • Achieves low EMI using a frequency spread function.
  • Incorporates a drive circuit capable of directly driving power MOSFETs. Output current: 0.5 A (sink)/0.5 A (source)
